Priorities

Priorities & the way forward

Torrential rains are once again running havoc in Pakistan, and as usual there are many claims and counter claims. If there are difficulties in KPK then it’s because the local rulers are "incompetent and not caring", but if there are difficulties in Lahore/Punjab then it’s a "natural phenomenon". The hypocrisy has no ending. There is no serious effort to address the problems. To be honest ; we might never be able to completely to eliminate the threat of torrential rains in Pakistan, but we can do much to avoid the big disasters.

The problem is that nobody is interested in big projects which overlap different governments. Normally you would see 5, 10. 15 year plans for a developing country, but not in Pakistan. What is interesting for the corrupt politicians are smaller and short term projects as f. ex.  completing a flyover, a metro bus project etc. eg projects which normally last 1 year or maximum 2 years. Take the example of the planned metro bus project in Rawalpindi. The World Bank estimated a cost of 4 billion Rupees, but the current PML-N led government estimates it will cost 44 BILLION Rupees. It might end up costing even more when it's finished. On top of it add the advertisement PML-N will  use to announce a “splendid success”. Such projects give kick backs in a very short time. It’s no secret that politicians spend immense sums on the elections. Sums which are far more than law permits. It’s also a fact that these corrupt elements live an unstable life and it's unstable because of their own corrupt attitude and incompetence. They cannot rely on completing their 5 year terms.  In such circumstances it’s a question about cashing the "investment in elections" as quickly as possible – hence the short term projects.

The result is that nobody cares about completing big projects and none care about addressing the real grievances of the common man and provinces. If the government cared then f. ex. we would have completed the Kala Bagh Dam a long time ago, because a dam of this potential and magnitude is essential for Pakistan’s future. The longer we wait the longer will our agony be. As for now; billions of rupees have been spent on surveys etc.  with no proper plan for moving forward. It doesn't look like it’s the plane for either PPP or PML-N. As mentioned above the only aim is short term projects with cash flow into their pockets.

The solution lies in a regime change. Corrupt politicians with a fake mandate and a fake PM will never be able to solve the genuine problems of Pakistan and make the right priorities. Kala Bagh Dam is a high priority project with immense potential. Not only will Pakistan benefit from generating CLEAN environmental friendly electricity, but also be able to contain water. Containing water will also have a huge impact on the economy. We will avoid floods on a large scale and also be able to use the water at times and places where there normally is scarcity of water. So, build one dam and get multiple benefits. The sooner we build the dam the better for Pakistan.

Having said that; then there are other high priority projects for a future PTI led government as education, health, environment and generation of 100 % electricity supply. If you want change then support a Naya Pakistan and Naya Pakistan is a job to be fulfilled by PTI. PTI has the leadership in Imran Khan, will power and competence to fulfil the basic needs for a prosperous Pakistan.
